Speeches: Wednesday
Sharpton is doing a good job. "This vote can't be bargained away. This vote can't be given away. With all due respect, Mr. President, read my lips: Our vote is not for sale." It's a good response to BushCo's feeble appearance at the Urban League on Friday. Ending with the comparison between Ray Charles singing about an America he hadn't seen and Democrats working, marching and voting for an America they haven't seen but believe will be created if they work, march and vote enough was sheer brilliance.
UPDATE: Poor Bob Graham. They said go out there and talk about strong defense, Bob. Iran, Korea, Iraq, Osama bin Forgotten. It's the key issue tonight. And, oh yeah, you'll be following Al Sharpton. Good luck!
UPDATE: Hey! It's my governor. I don't see his appeal. He's talking about my pet issue and coming out of his mouth, I don't like it. I feel like I'm buying an air conditioner.
John Mellencamp. The last political thing I saw him at he was playing a guitar that had "fuck torture" written on it. I watched Bill Clinton tell an upset staffer, who claimed to be hearing about angry calls, "Tell them they misread it." That's our Bill!
UPDATE: The last of tonight's swing state speakers is up. NPR is worried about getting Edwards on exactly at 10pm for the networks and they're hoping that Granholm will pick up the pace. They know what's really important to America - network scheduling. The Dems are smart not to stiff any of the swing staters. I know a few people who have stopped what they were doing to see "their first lady" speak and that was for Vilsack last night. So it matters.
UPDATE: So obviously I've been kicked off the television and am reduced to listening to the brainiacs on NPR. Linda Wortheimer (sp?) is convinced that 2008's conventions will be only two days long because they are "very much controlled by tv." Apparently convention organizers are going through "terrible things" to stay on schedule for the 10pm network coverage. Good lord. Terrible things? I'm worried for that nice Jennifer Granholm. That doesn't jibe with what Atrios and Pandagon are saying about the convention not being a made-for-tv event. My money is on Atrios and Jesse being right.

You wrote a bad word!
Poor you, kicked off the TV. Tell your family that this is the most important election of our lifetimes!
Network TV is undergoing its death throes. The people who really want to watch the conventions do so on cable anyway.

You misread it.
You're so right about network tv. By 2008 the conventions will be beamed into our skulls or something. Network tv will be wondering what happened. Which I think is pretty sad because people who can't afford cable should have access to the coventions too - especially those people in fact.
