Today has been remarkably and suprisingly hard for me as I read the Ciro post mortems. I've become a cross between Ignatz Semmelweis and Cato. Half of me is in danger of losing my mind trying to understand why blogtopians won't get behind Chuck's campaign. As for Cato half, screw going mad, I'm going to start ending every post, comment and birthday card I write with "Chuck Pennacchio must be elected in 2006."
I don't think I could be sicker of everyone talking about moral victories and the warm fuzzy feeling that comes from having given Ciro a chance. Showing up was the important thing. We really made a difference. All of that is true, by the way. It's just so damn hard to hear while a few of us are working for another candidate in one of the biggest races in the country this year, who could use some blog love and is getting ignored for reasons that would make the most hardcore party operative proud. And I'm not suggesting that it's an either/or thing. Suppport Ciro. Support Lamont. But find some time for Chuck.
And now, my inner-Semmelweis raises his head as I read this is from the leading pragmatic Democrat (or is he a reform Democrat?) today in his Ciro post mortem:
The time to fight for the soul of the party is in the primaries. Once the primaries are over, I'm happy to get behind whoever wins.
Which explains his support of Casey in PA. Casey, with his rabid support for Alito, is clearly the better representative of the soul of the Democratic party.
You know, and here's my inner Cato talking, it's a funny thing about battles for souls - I don't think they end with the primaries.
All I've done at the American Street so far today is cross-post something I posted here and at dKos. I'll update here as warranted.
CHUCK PENNACCHIO MUST BE ELECTED IN 2006!

Yes. We mark that glorious event every week here. We need to honor our great American traditions of advertising. It's also my day to post at the American Street.

Whenever I try to recall any of my highschool Latin I always remember that scene.
