The other day I witnessed a man trying to rescue half a dozen drowning children f rom a river. His plan was to throw huge rocks at them, hoping to knock them out, at which point, their thrashing subdued by the lack of consciousness, he would be able to wade in safely to drag them to shore. He had already killed four of the children this way and was taking aim at the fifth. Man, I thought, that's a bold decision.
Now, administration officials are recommending Bush stand by his war strategy until the spring, and Bush is considered unlikely to order more than a symbolic cut in troops before the end of the year. Officials familiar with the assessment spoke on condition of anonymity to describe decisions not yet publicly released.
The suggestion is a bold one, considering Republicans lost control of Congress last year because of voter dissatisfaction on the war and polls show Americans overwhelmingly oppose the war.
And not for nothing but exactly how morally bankrupt do you have to be a party to a symbolic withdrawal of troops? Nothing says that these people have no regard for the welfare of our soldiers or the merit of their mission than using them this flagrantly as PR pawns.
And finally, add this article to Scarecrow's list of reporting that doesn't mention that 30K troops are coming home in the spring no matter what the maniacs in D.C. or Baghdad say.

Just which "administration officials" are making these so-called "recommendations", anyway? I mean, are we supposed to pretend Bush takes advice? From who, other than Li'l Dick?
It's beyond ludicrous to suggest that the solid corps of yes-men around Dear Leader would ever tell him anything he didn't want to hear. He fired all those guys, up to and including generals. Anybody tells him some home truth he doesn't care for, they're out. Zinni, O'Neill, Lawrence, Comey, Clark, Pace, etc etc etc - they're all gone, and the list is a long one.
"Discussions", my ass. More like a Hollywood studio head meeting with his VP's. Chief speaks, heads nod. "Yes, sir, you're right." End of "discussion".
