Matt Yglesias finally realizes that Team BushCo's plan for Iraq has been chaos all along. Judging from the comments the theory actually surprises quite a few of his readers.
Meanwhile, the always overlooked Bob Herbert reminds us of what chaos means to the people living in it. When it comes to prices paid, that doesn't even rate a place in the national debate.
Alt Hippo patiently explains to the establishment journamalists that BushCo appointing an AG who will serve independently of the Executive Branch is not "neutering himself" and is, in fact, requisite to the nomination. I will say though that if you want to know about about self-neutering, you won't find more experienced sources than the establishment media.
A Republican candidate for president showed up at the tiny pro-war demonstration today. You won't see that kind of conviction from a Democratic candidate. Is that because
a) A Dem could never get away with showing up at an anti-war event thanks to the IOKIYAR bias of the corporate media, the screeching of the Right Wing Noise Machine and the public's general discomfort with protests of any sort.
b) None of the Dem candidates wants the war to end and they're showing that conviction daily if we care to look.
c) Both of the above and now I want a drink or five.
Sirota puts the whole show in glaring relief:
I can't tell what's more disgusting: Being lied to by Democrats about their supposed powerlessness, or having the GOP tell the American people the war must continue and American troops must continue getting killed, all because it is supposedly good for the Republican Party's political fortunes. What I can say is this: It is clear that less than a year after a national election that saw the American people demand an end to the war, both parties are going out of their way to continue it - because to folks in Washington, D.C., no matter how many people die, the whole tragic affair is all just a big game.
