During her interview with Prof. Martha Kumar of Towson University, Ms. Bumiller made of point of talking about the pressure at the Times to be first with a story. It was with that in mind that I laughed my way through David Stout's nose-to-the-window piece about Bob Woodward's new book, Plan of Attack.
...according to The Associated Press, which obtained a copy of the forthcoming book and distributed an article about it today.
Nor did he tell George J. Tenet, the Director of Central Intelligence, according to The A.P.
The book also offers titillating glimpses of the struggle for power between Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, according to an article about the book on the Post's Web site.
The book, "Plan of Attack," is a behind-the-scenes account of the 16 months, from November 2001 to March 2003, that led up to the military campaign against Iraq. The book, published by Simon & Schuster, will be available in stores next week.
At which time the NYTimes will be sure to get a copy of its own.
HAH! I hadn't even noticed! Jeebus, is that pathetic. Do you think Bill Keller's rattled by how completely the NYT flubbed its Richard Clarke coverage in the first couple of days of that media fest?

He must be going nuts - if he really does care about getting stories first, or at all. I think they have to figure out what they want to be - FOX News or a paper with guts on more than the editorial page. Someone should let them know that they'll never be able to be FOX since the hatred that crowd feels for them goes too deep. Right now they're just letting the news pass them by.

Well, Woodward is a Post guy, so of course he had it leaked to the Post before the NYT could get it.
