If you missed The Daily Show last night, be sure to catch the rerun tonight at 7pm on Comedy Central. Jon Stewart patiently and politely takes apaprt Steven F. Hayes from the Weekly Standard (The Connection). He wouldn't give an inch on his point, which is - when you're going to develop a doctrine of preemptive war, shouldn't you be, you know, sure of what you're doing?
I almost didn't watch the segment because I expected Stewart to defer to the guest as I've seen him do with Karen Hughes and John Podhoretz. (Stewart even scolded the audience for laughing in appropriately during that interview.) But I missed the distinction among the guests. Hughues and Podhoretz were explaining their opinons of BushCo, the man. Hayes was defending the facts of BushCo's disasterous and murderous policies so the kidgloves were off. It was a beautiful thing.
While I'm on the Daily Show - the link above is a good one to keep handy to watch correspondent clips from old shows. Stewart's Yo' Democracy and Bush v. Bush are there as well as my favorite sfrom Stephen Colbert, Mean Dean , Object Objectivity, So You Want to be in Politics, and The New Iraq.
