Last night on the Daily Show the bitter and incredibly self-conscious Maureen Dowd comfirmed what I have believed to be true about Thomas Friedman since he turned into Super Hawk. Dowd mentioned that when Friedman is feeling frustrated about what's going on in the Middle East, he knocks on her door and says, "Let's go get a daquiri." I think it's telling that she used that story and the word "frustrated" in it. Friedman's new plan - kill them all, let God sort them out - is clearly the product of deep disappointment and frustration. He's seen too much in the Middle East and he's incapable of thinking of any other way to solve what he perceives the problem to be. Too bad he didn't drink his frustration away instead of twisting it into the columns talking about murdering thousands of people "because we could."
