On Thursday Don Cheadle quoted a use of the word "tsunami" that didn't make me want to scream. He said that someone, whom I think he called "John Pendergast", coined the phrase "tsunami of violence" to refer to the genocides in Rwanda and Darfur. That's a good use of the imagery and the word. These aren't.
Cheadle was reporting on a recent trip he made to Sudan and Chad with Jim McDermott, Barbara Lee, Diane Watson and other members of Congress. They called for the US to stop the genocide now. Lots more on that at Passion of the Present. Scroll down to January 28 if the link gets you to the main page.
This is a bit off the point, but this really confirms for me that I love Don Cheadle. He's always been a great actor, but I'm very happy to see that he's using his platform -- with an Oscar nomination, to boot -- after Hotel Rwanda to highlight these things. He obviously knows what's going on, and he's trying to make the most of his time in the spotlight.

I love him too. He was the only part of Boogie Nights I liked. I wish someone would explore China's role in Sudan. I think we're being kept out by them.
