New bumper sticker?

"USA: WE'RE MORE THAN JUST TERRIBLE ATYPICAL HAPPENINGS!"

Know how you feel about bumiller, but I think this little excerpt here from the recent press briefing shows their may be some hope for the cheerleader reporter:

MR. McCLELLAN: -- because of this report. I think Newsweek is going to be in the best position to determine how to achieve that. And there are ways that I pointed out that they can help repair the damage. One way is to point out what the policies and practices of our United States military are. Our United States military personnel go out of their way to make sure that the Holy Koran is treated with care --

Q Are you asking them to write a story about how great the American military is; is that what you're saying here?

MR. McCLELLAN: Elisabeth, let me finish my sentence. Our military --

Q You've already said what you're -- I know what -- how it ends.

What do you think?

Ugh...

The worst part is that this sort of damage will be next-to-impossible for any future administration to correct in our liftimes...especially when the GOP rank and file, even at universities, happily believes we're fighting a religious war

Hi Chepooka - Print up a thousand!

Hey Heretik: I gave Bumiller great big hugs for that exchange and then asked why no information from it appeared in her story the next day. It may have been an editor that made that decision but she's the name on the column. I'm starting to wonder how much influence editors have and who they are. I think the NYT's new credibility policy is supposed to help with that, but I'm not sure.

Hi Josh - It's the idealist in me, I know, but I think the kooks on both sides who want a religious war are in the minority. On the other hand, another 9/11 could be a real problem. And if that happens, we're going to have to ask hard questions about who would benefit from that.

  • "[O]ur time, our energy, should be spent in educating, agitating, organizing our fellow citizens in the workplace, in the neighborhood, in the schools. Our objective should be to build, painstakingly, patiently but energetically, a movement that, when it reaches a certain critical mass, would shake whoever is in the White House, in Congress, into changing national policy on matters of war and social justice."

Mr. President, we love America, not because of all of us have seen the beauty all the time.

But we believed if we kept on working, if we kept on marching, if we kept on voting, if we kept on believing, we would make America beautiful for everybody.
