"As if BushCo doesn't know exactly what horrors are visited upon African women and their unborn children [...] when he refuses to contribute to the U.N. Population Fund ..."

Problem is that UN funds do not exactly enjoy an exemplary reputation for financial rectitude, or, to put it another way they are as bent as a 9$ note! You should remember that it is not his money he would be giving away, but yours.

Of course, another solution would be to invade and introduce American standards but somehow, I don't think you'd be frightfully keen on that.

I'll take whatever corruption there is in UNFPA since I've never heard of any.

I am happy to confess that until now I had never heard of the UNFPA. However, as a result of our little exchange, I did some research. I gather that the UNFPA actually offered an award to the Chinese governemnt for its policy of one child, one family. This policy resulted in a genocide of tens of millions, 80% to 90% of whom were *girls*! And, delicious irony, support in the US comes from many pro-choice women - you couldn't make it up!

Old news. Keep researching.

This policy resulted in a genocide of tens of millions, 80% to 90% of whom were *girls*!

Do you mean aborted or killed? Feminists tend to complain about the numbers aborted which always seems odd to me because of their pro-"choice for women- no choice for men" stance.

But in fact more 'boys' (male foetuses) are aborted. And they can tell which sex the unborn baby is in the womb even in China (although I beleive the practise is outlawed in connection with selecetive abortions in China, obviously it goes on anyway).

Am I to assume, then, that you are happy to support an organisation that has itself supported a policy that led to tens of millions of deaths, most of whom were girls? or is it an irrelevance?

David Byron asks whether I mean aborted or killed? I can only reply that it ill-behooves a lifetime sinner like me to attempt any sort of moralising. I am writing in clinical terms only, and in the old-fashioned English that I prefer, putting an end to a human life-form is killing. Ending millions of human life-forms is mass murder. I'm not too picky, failry easy-going usually, but unlike our hostess, I would prefer to steer clear of anyone who supports people who commit mass murder. Call me choosey!

So you mean abortions then?

The point is that most of the abortions are not gender related and as you know foetuses are more likely to be male than female.

If you 'do the math' you'll find your 80 or 90% figure comes down to about 50%.

I've always found this faux statistic of 80-90% girls to be a wonderful example of conservatives and feminists collaborating.

Conservatives say, "Hey we know you're pro-choice normally but what if the foetuses are GIRLS?" and the feminists say, "Yowee! another chance to make out that women are discriminated against! Sign me up!"

In fact the socialogical function of a decreased number of available women in China is hurtfull to men not women. It means women are highly prised and single men have a reduced chance of finding a wife unless they are loaded.

Most backwards cultures prize male babies over females. And they don't much care if their sons have a hard time scoring. Males are better manual laborers, for one thing.

Anyway, there's a lot of horrors to go around. Why is the US getting blamed if someone dies in Africa? Why didn't France or Germany save them? We're helping in other ways. France and Germany block our desire to bring pest resistant crops to Africa, but they'd rather see people starve to death. I guess they're evil too, but you wouldn't notice or care about that because they're left wingers.

And, another thing. Bush policies don't CAUSE any suffering. I could just as easily say that YOUR lack of giving is causing people to die. Why haven't you given everything you can? It's like blaming the umbrella maker for the rain.

It must be nice on your planet John. I take it where you come from they never heard of neo-colonialism or the American Empire.

On our planet US policies have a big effect, and in fact pretty much run many or most third world countries. These countries form the American Empire. That is why America is often to blame for (ie causes) deaths in Africa.

On our planet.

Planet Liberal? Or is that just an alternate universe a la Star Trek?

Our first black president, Clinton didn't do a very good job of controlling his empire. But I guess that's retro-actively Bush's fault.
