I have problems with some of the political decisions of Planned Parenthood, but I will support this idea 100%. This is from the email blast announcing the new fund raising plan - you need to know that Warminster is a town in Bucks County:
Are you familiar with the picketers outside our Warminster clinic?
Wish you could give them a piece of your mind?
With our Pledge-A-Picket campaign, you can take a stand against their harassment and support the women we serve.
Everyweek, these protestors gather outside our Louis Drive health center with graphic signs and anti-choice literature. They verbally assault our patients and their families--using a bullhorn to say things like "you're a sinner" and "be a man, don't let your woman kill her baby."
Now you can join with others in our community to discourage and discredit these extremists.
Sign Up Now!How does it work?
You decide the amount you would like to pledge per picketer (minimum 10 cents). When protesters show up at our clinic (about 20 on an average Friday) Planned Parenthood of Bucks County will count and record their number from April 14 through June 30, 2006. At the conclusion of the campaign, we will send you an email with the total number of number of picketers and a pledge reminder. We will place a sign outside our center that tracks fundraising and makes protesters fully aware that their actions are benefitting PPABC.
We will kick-off this campaign on April 14, when over 100 protesters gather for a yearly Good Friday service at our clinic.
Your pledge total can be capped at a pre-set amount, if desired.
How clever is that? Last night I was lucky enough to speak to the woman coordinating this in Bucks County. She said that the campaign is taking off based on emails alone, which is unheard of in the fund raising business. I guess there's nothing like turning every anti-choice demonstrater into money in Planned Parenthood's bank account. Planned Parenthood's got a real moral-builder here.
Now, if they'd wake up to work for the candidacy of Chuck Pennacchio, and stop following foolish rules about endorsements and worrying about the alleged viability of candidates, then I'd become a member myself.
Chuck Pennacchio must be elected.
I'm cross-posting this at the American Street too.
I believe that the folks at the Austin, TX Planned Parenthood first came up with that. It's very very smart.
