In case you haven't already heard, Sarah McLachlan gave away the entire $150,000 video budget for her new song, World on Fire, making one instead for fifteen bucks. During the video, graphics play comparing what the money would have been used for to make the video and what it was used for by the charities. The only problem with it is that the graphics flash by too quickly. Here are some of the ones I caught:
- $480 for office phones = ten equipped classrooms in Afghanistan
- $200 for one production assistant for one day = school fees for one term for 100 children in Ethiopia,
- $15,000 for camera and art costs = 1 mobile med unit in India, which will help 150,000 in its lifetime
- $3,000 for catering in LA = meals for 10950 street children in Calcutta - and they have video of them cleaning trains and sleeping in the street in case you weren't already in tears
- $15,000 art and camera costs = a power generator for an entire village
Hmm, maybe because Bono is too self-obsessed and doing so would put a dent in his sunglasses budget? Ah, it's so fun to bash Bono, even though he does in fact do great work.
