I was sure that Imus would escape his latest burst of hate speech. I was sure his position in the Corporate Right Wing Noise Machine and his revenue generating powers would protect him from any significant fallout. I had history on my side and the assumption that he was making enough money that he'd never be let go. Either he's not the cash cow I thought or the corporations who own him chose doing the right thing over profits. I'm not qualified to know what happened. Good for America though that his ability to pimp for "respectable" pols and journalists has finally reached the end of its very rocky road.
I am thrilled that this happened in the middle of the famous WFAN radiothon for SIDS. I used to listen to the FAN quite a bit. The SIDS radiothon is two interminable days devoted to raising money for SIDS research and prevention. It's comprised of two elements: stories from parents who have lost children to SIDS and unlistenable tributes to Imus' charitable nature since he supposedly played a big role in starting the thing. It was part of the cover for his despicible behavior on air. It's perfect justice that he get fired in the middle of it. I hope donations to the charites that benefit from it don't suffer.
Oh you are not the only one who got it wrong. I didn't think he would be fired either.
Maybe a Costanza "opposite" lifestyle is in order?

Of course, now we'll find out if this was more about Imus or more about saying these kinds of things. Glenn Beck ought to be wondering if he's next - and he ought to be.
