Chevy's Live Earth MSN ad goes something like this:
There are (some number of cars somewhere).
If every one of them were powered exclusively with Ethanol E85,
it would save 100 900 million gallons of gasoline a year.
Enough to fill the world's largest aquarium
100 times.
Now forgive my rudeness in the face of Chevy's enviro-do-goodism, which I'm sure is completely sincere but how the fuck does the image of filling an aquarium with gasoline help get us get clear on the realities of saving gasoline? How about it would cut carbon emissions x percent a year ... or it would be equivalent to taking x number of (god forbid) CARS OFF THE DAMN ROAD? Or how about guessing how many soldiers' lives and limbs it would save a year if we stopped using oil to fuel our every move?
Filling aquariums with gasoline. Please.
Yes I'm listening to Live Earth again while I work. Sue me.
