BushCo is in a wealthy Philly suburb today to kiss John "Freedom's Watch" Templeton's ring and raise some money* but he can't escape the reality that people hate him and his war:
Also, about 50 people from activist groups and the local community held signs and sang rally songs at the intersection of Morris and Montgomery Avenues in Bryn Mawr. The demonstrators called for an end to the war in Iraq and protested against Bush's recent veto of SCHIP, a children's health care program.
Jeff Garis, executive director of Penn Action, a branch of the social justice coalition U.S. Action, organized the demonstration. He said he was pleased with the turnout.
"We want to make sure (Bush) knows we're not supporting his agenda," he said.
That's the truth. I heard up to 75 people were there.
Another part of the story is that when BushCo landed in PA, the boy who tipped off authorities to a possible school shooting was there to meet el Presidente. This is how the D.A., who arranged the meeting and who is running for County Commissioner as a Republican, framed the occasion:
Castor said decision (sic) to honor Bennett was not political.
"This is not about President Bush; this is about the President of the United States commending a citizen for doing a good deed," Castor said. "You want people everywhere to see him honored."
In other words, respect the office, not the man. That's especially excellent advice in this case.
UPDATE: If we know one thing about this shameful wreck of a president, we know that he hates to be exposed to the rabble who dare to oppose him. Of course, he's not alone in that thinking. Anyway, good news, everyone: My friend, who was at the demonstration, said that BushCo's limo drove so close to her that she was able to "look into his eyes." She reports that evil looks like a grinning and waving idiot. She also said that a neighbor of Thompson's let protesters stand on his/her lawn and even put out signs. I hear that the Secret Service told a police officer to remove the protesters but was told that it's private property and they have permission so no dice. Private property works in our favor for once.
* When do you suppose a Democratic President will show up at Noah Weiner's house for a fundraiser?
Full disclosure: Penn Action is the group I work for and we totally rock. If you saw any photos from the anti-war march in Philly on Saturday, then chances are that you saw a red and white sign that read, "Support the Troops End the War." Those are ours.
