They had to pull out the fainting couch in the House a few minutes ago. Rep. Pete Stark (D-13) is giving the GOP a fit. He compared spending on the "illegal war in Iraq" to spending on SCHIP and in there was this estimation of why the war is being fought:
... if you can find enough kids to sign up to go over there to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement.
He also said this:
Bush just likes to blow things up, in the US, in Iraq and in Congress.
Hard to disagree. It's how he stays relevant.
UPDATE: Rep. Joe Barton (TX) reached for the smelling salts and just before collapsing was able to get debate suspended because of another of Rep. Stark's comments. Now we're waiting to see if Stark's words will be stricken. These are the words - he spoke them while waiting for a procedural matter to go through:
I'd like to point out that by following the Republican plan by 2017, we will have probably killed 20,000 soldiers in Iraq spending $200 billion.
The words were not stricken.
