The answer to the Torture Litmus Test (via) is to not confirm any AG nominee BushCo sends to the Hill. It won't stop him from getting what he wants, but at least Congress won't continue to be complicit in this particular crime and look so fucking stupid while doing it.
Big Tent Democrat lets Obama have it over some games Illinois' junior Senator is playing with Kyl-Lieberman in order to take a shot at Hillary. In short, Kyl-Lieberman doesn't authorize President CooCooBananas to attack Iran, Obama knows that but lies about it so he can introduce unnecessary legislstion that makes Hillary look bad and him like Chris Dodd:
Senator Obama refused to sign a letter circulated by Senator Jim Webb that made clear that:
"We wish to emphasize that no congressional authority exists for unilateral military action against Iran," it says. That includes the Kyl-Lieberman amendment, the letter says.
Instead of agreeing with this inarguable statement, Obama chooses to try and make political hay, and says only legislation can undo, implicitly, the Congressional grant of authority to Bush to invade Iran. The truth is the Obama campaign is lying. On the issue of going to war with Iran. This is worse than any doubletalk. This is playing with the security of our nation for crass political gain. This is the lowest moment of the campaign for any Democrat. Shame on Obama.
I'm wondering if he can go three days without screwing up. If we're going to waste Congress' time, let's waste it getting Cheney kicked to the curb. BTD ends the post by reminding us that we should all be glad that Dodd, who did the right thing and signed the letter, is in the race.
Speaking of Dodd, he said something in an interview I posted here several days ago that has stuck with me. He was speaking about immunity for the telecoms in the context of Democrats enabling Dear Leader:
Why is this administration asking for retroactive immunity out of the Congress? The executive branch can grant immunity. They don't need Congress to do so. If the President thinks these phone companies deserve immunity, then why doesn't he do it? Why does he want the Democrats to join him in that? What's in that stuff that all of a sudden a week or two from now you're going to be turning around saying "Did you know what you were granting immunity to?"
In other words, why would anyone in their right mind trust BushCo even a little bit on any score? And that brings us back to the beginning of this post.
