Via a new aggregator blog called The Mississippifarian comes a neat little TPM item for those who like it when justice is, you know, served on Bushies the same way it is on everyone else.
It seems that Brent Wilkes, the guy who was convicted for bribing Duke Cunningham, can't raise bail because the mortgage crisis and collapse of the housing bubble means his house isn't worth what it used to be.
After a steady string of legal defeats, including conviction on all counts for bribing Duke Cunningham, Wilkes finally caught a break last month when an appeals court ruled that he could be released on bail pending his appeal of the case. Wilkes had been sent immediately to prison after his conviction because the judge simply thought Wilkes was such a crook and liar that he'd be sure to skip bail.
***
It appears that Wilkes is yet another victim of the burst housing bubble: real estate pledged by himself and his family as collateral for bail was sufficient to get him free in February of 2007 when he was indicted, but dropping property values have left him well short of the needed $1.4 million.
Don'tcha jes' luv it? It's almost poetic, this justice thing. May more of the Bushies be subjected to it.
Karma's a rare but beeyooteefull thing, isn't it? Almost makes the bubble burst mess worth it.
Good to see you back in the saddle again, Mick. Where are ya residin' these days?

Hi, Kevin. Have been in Charleston, SC for the last couple of months but that situation is about to change again. Will be moving on in the next day or so and right likely will disappear for awhile again. Still progressing slowly to CA but work has been difficult to find and temporary when it is.
It's getting very bad out here. I've met a bunch of people who've never had this problem before and are having a hard time dealing with it. There are lots of homeless people who've never been homeless before and are sort of stunned it's happened to them. There are a lot of people out of work who've never been out of work before. There's a lot of fear and quite a bit of anger. Rock-ribbed Pubs down here are turning into Dems, they're so mad.
Too bad losing everything is what it took for them to realize they were being conned,.
