The HCAN! coalition is launching today with over fifty events in twenty eight states. I work for Penn Action - I'm one of those organizers in a Blue Dog's district that HCAN!'s campaign manager, Richard Kirsch, talked about. Penn Action is part of the PA launches so it's very exciting to watch it happen after working on it for a while now. There's HCAN! coverage all over the internets today but I think Roger Hickey, writing at TPMCafe, explained the effort best:
The mission of the Campaign for America's Future is to develop and promote bold policy ideas that can build a majority for change. We brought together environmentalists and union activists to promote an "Apollo project" investment agenda to make America energy independent - and to create the next generation of good American jobs. We sounded the alarm about conservative plans to privatize Social Security, and - working with a coalition similar to HCAN - we helped to defeat those dangerous plans to undermine retirement security.
We're not pushing a specific policy but instead pushing a set of priorities which any health care reform plan must have. Mostly this about lots of powerful groups with $40M to work to move the window and get Americans to feel comfortable enough to ask the powers that be for the universal human right that is health care. And Elizabeth Edwards is on board - can't beat that. I'm proud to be part of the effort.

Great idea. I hope it helps move us toward a reasonable healthcare system.
Long time, no "see"....
